About Cheryl

I am a board-certified, licensed creative arts therapist and licensed professional counselor with 17 years of experience in New York City and abroad. Before my career in mental wellness, I worked in corporate fashion for several years. It was there that I realized working to help others to work towards feeling their best selves was more my calling than making beautiful clothing.

I am a person-centered, down-to-earth clinician that appreciates creating an individualized approach to treatment. Through the use of talk therapy and making art, my clients have been able to have access to breakthroughs that were not evident through traditional talk therapy alone.

Talk & art therapy can help you address a wide range of issues, including relationships/friendship challenges, depression & anxiety, trauma & loss, and of course, career challenges, and burnout.

What does a session look like?

We will be meeting virtually but the good news is, there’s no commute! I merely ask that you find a quiet, private space to meet virtually via video or on the phone. If you are sharing your space with others, I encourage the use of headphones. Great work will still be accomplished on screen. In our first session, we may explore your relationship with therapy in the past, and review any questions you may have about virtual art therapy and my professional experience. I always reassure my clients that it is important to ask questions to see if I am a good fit for you! Sometimes making art in session can be challenging so I will perhaps give you a prompt or a thought to bring with you until our next session. There is no judgment in our sessions and what you say in therapy stays in therapy. Having some basic art supplies at hand may be helpful, but we can get creative with anything you happen to have at home. What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a modality based psychotherapeutic approach that is facilitated by a trained clinician with a masters degree in Art Therapy.  You do not need to be an artist to be in art therapy, just an open mind. Art Therapists are not interpreting your artwork, which I have found to be a common misconception. https://arttherapy.org/about-art-therapy/
